What Causes Dry Eye?

A dry eye is when your eye lacks sufficient moisture to keep it lubricated. Irritation isn’t solely from the discomfort but also from the eyelid scraping against your unlubricated eye. Not only this, but there is also a slew of symptoms attached. Some common symptoms include:

  • Light sensitivity
  • Redness
  • Blurred vision
  • Eye fatigue
  • Poor vision at night

What Causes Dry Eye?

Many things can cause dry eyes and many things that can further complicate the symptoms. For example, allergies, wind, and a lack of vitamin A can cause dry eye; some things that we all do each day can cause dry eye.

Office workers are at risk as well with their excessive computer time. Did you know that your eyes blink less when looking at screens? Blinking less causes your tears to evaporate quicker, leading to burning itchy eyes. Not online office workers are at risk, but so are gamers, LP workers, and any other profession that relies on using monitors.

Doctor’s Visit

If you have a worsening condition, you may need to consider visiting your doctor. Doctors can prescribe powerful meds for chronic dry eye cases that can treat chronic cases much better than OTC (over-the-counter) drugs.

These can either be droppers or oral tablets. These typically treat inflammation of the eyelids, which can disrupt tear production and distribution. By reducing swelling, tears can thoroughly lubricate the entire eye, thus relieving dry eyes.
